I'm a Creo Parametric user and after PTC announced it was acquiring Onshape on October 23, 2019, I signed up for an account and took my first test drive. Here is the video of my experience:
Here is the video I made for my YouTube channel discussing the acquisition the day that it happened:
Hope you enjoy. I'm looking forward to learning Onshape.
Dave
Thanks for posting. I started this group, but I haven't had time to post on it. Since you mentioned you have no Onshape friends, here is a link to one of my Onshape projects:
Good videos Dave.
When I started using Onshape I did the same as you using my past experience with other 3D modeling CAD software and applied that to learn Onshape.
I then did a some tutorials from the Onshape learning center and that opened my eyes to how Onshape really works and how some of the new approaches Onshape has created for sketching, modeling ,part creation, and assemblies is changing the CAD game.
All the best in your learning adventure with Onshape.
Thanks for sharing, Rollin. Cool elevator project.
I've taken four of the tutorials so far, Bryan, and you're right, they are eye openers for how Onshape really should be used.
The commands that opened my eyes to design different with Onshape were the sheet metal commands. Sheet metal design has been my job for the last 19 years and Onshape has simplified some of the tasks.
Example: I have the shape for a cover that I made with an extrude and chamfers.
Typical CAD systems to go from a part to sheet metal you would need to shell, rip and then convert.
Onshape command convert to sheet metal lets you quickly do this in one command.
Now the fun part, if you needo create more parts and rip in a different location, all you have to do within the flat pattern bend table is change from bend to rip.
If you want to change bend parameters such as material thickness, radius, neutral factor, corner conditions faces you want to keep and even rips to bends.
This was all done with only 4 parametric features created.
Like mentioned in my previous post. Onshape has some game changing features.
Part Configurations have really gotten my attention. I'm going to start playing with those next.
Cool video on Onshape sheet metal you have added to your you tube channel.
Thanks, Bryan!
I like the Exploded Views functionality that just got added. Even more, I like the fact that I don't have to update my software and that it happens in the background.
