Can the Solidworks Search Tool be used to locate use of global var in a part file?
The Solidworks Search Tool does not appear to be designed for searching for specific string in a SLDPRT file. Or will it? Could it be used, for example, to find where "MyGlobalVar" is used throughout the file?

No, it can't.
But, you can open the "Equations, Global Variables and Dimensions" box and all equations will be shown, including those where your variable is used.

Here's something cool though, you can use windows search to find keywords that exist in a parts custom properties. In the image I attached I searched a connector part number in windows, and it finds the part with that text string in the custom properties.
