Beam connection with Abaqus

In some FEM's software, it's really easy to set beam connection between two body. like in ANSYS Mechanical.

This document is a simple tutorial in order to create a link between two bodys, with a deformable behaviour. Also, to take into consideration the effect of the washer, we pilot slaves nodes in rigid way with the master node.

  1. Step 1:

Create a wire between two points like in the pictures below:

This operation will open the following window. Now, select the  button and select the two points:

    Select “done”.

Select OK on the “Create Wire Feature” window.

  2. Step 2:

In the properties module, create a material; create the section of the beam (with material properties and the beam section). Now we can affect the section to the line with this function: . Now it’s important to select the beam orientation with this function: . Select the appropriate vector to define the n3 component in the same direction of the beam:

  3. Step 3:

Go to the “Interaction module”. Now, create MPC constraint with this tool  and select the master node:

    And the slave node/geometry:

Select “done”. Now, an Edit Constraint window will open:

At the MPC Type selection, select “Tie” to have rigid connection between the master node and slave’s node.

The beam connection is finish to set.
