How do I convert STL graphics to a solid model?

This tutorial will teach you how to convert STL graphics to a solid model in SOLIDWORKS. Try it. It worked for me!

  1. Step 1: Open SOLIDWORKS

    Start SolidWorks and click Open.

  2. Step 2: Select File Type

    Change file type to STL.

  3. Step 3: Click Options

    Click Options.

  4. Step 4: Change Import As

    Change import as to Solid body.

  5. Step 5: Select STL file

    Select STL file and click Open.

  6. Step 6: STL file is updated

    And we have STL file converted into Solid Body.

    Thanks. It works but I don't know why it changes all curves to many straight lines. do you have any idea?

    hi, thank you first, I followed the steps and an error came 'model exceeds dimensional limits'. Can you please guide to correct it? and that pop-up box won't close...!

    @Pedram you get straight lines because an SLT is actually made up of millions of small straight lines which make facets. It is not a true 'CAD' format. It is more of a graphics sort of file type. (which just happens to be common for 3D printer slicing software programs to use.)

    What do I do if Solidworks(2013 version) doesn't let me change to solid body? It only accepts graphic body. Thanks in advance!

    only works if you have less than 20,000 facets
