Is your system slow or are you making it slow??
Throw away Heavy resource consuming, and less useful Adobe Reader and get Foxit Reader

Foxit Reader has a free version too, it consumes less RAM and works even better that Adobe Reader
1. you can add bookmarks to your PDF files even if you didnt create them!
2. you can add comments to the Files
3. you can even draw on top of the document pages
